Information for Incoming Exchange Students

Welcome to New College!  We are so excited you will be exchanging here soon!  We look forward to meeting you.  In the meantime, there are a few steps you need to take to prepare for your exchange, as described below.
  Please submit the Special Registration Application available here and the Student Dependent Status/Consent to Disclosure of Education Records available here.  You can either mail the Student Dependent Status/Consent to Disclosure of Education Records to the address provided below, or scan and email it to Registrar@ncf.edu.

Please send an official transcript from your home institution to the New College Office of the Registrar (see address below) and forward the email confirming receipt of your request to abroad@ncf.edu so we know your transcript is on its way.  Your official transcript should be sent directly from your home institution to our Registrar's Office (NOT our Admissions Office) using the mailing address below:

Please request your transcript ASAP as it can take a couple of weeks to get here and submit the Special Registration Application and the Student Dependent Status/Consent to Disclosure of Education Records.

Once your Special Registration Application has been processed, you will receive an email with your NCF email address, login credentials and instructions on updating your password.

Immunizations

On-Campus Housing Application 

Once you receive your login credentials, you will be able to apply for on-campus housing on your myNCF portal.  You will then search for "eRez-Housing and Dining" tile and complete your On Campus Housing Application.  You will need your NCF I.D. number and NCF email address to do so.  Any question regarding housing or the housing application process should be directed to housing-reslife@ncf.edu.

Advocacy and Accessible Learning (AALC)

Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Accessible Learning Center (ALC) at aalc@ncf.edu for information and support in facilitating an accessible education experience at New College. The ALC helps assist students with accommodation requests for their academics, housing, and meal plan.  The ALC also provides support to students such as academic success coaching and assistive technology training, as well as referrals to disability-related support groups on campus. Academic Calendar and Classes

The NCF academic calendar is posted here.  Please note that exchange students should plan on arriving to campus on Tuesday prior to the beginning of classes.

The class schedule and course descriptions are released in early April for Fall semester and early November for Spring semester.

Important things to keep in mind when selecting classes:

• New College does not have a pre-registration system.  Course registration happens during the first 10 days of the semester.  The academic contract, due within 10 days after the semester begins, serves as the official registration document.
• The unit credit system is used at the undergraduate level at New College of Florida. One unit is equivalent to four (4) semester credits. Almost all courses at New College carry a unit of credit and a small number of them carry a half unit of credit. A half unit of credit is equivalent to two (2) semester credits.
• New College students are considered to be full-time when enrolled in 3 units (12 semester credits).  Students here take 3 to 5 full-term classes (or equivalent) per semester.  However, you will need to discuss with your advisor what course load (number of units) your home institution will require you to take to be considered full-time while on exchange at New College.  Three New College units may not be considered to be full-time by your home institution. Each semester-long class is worth 4 CHE (1 unit).  Each Mod class (half-semester) is worth 2 CHE (half unit).
• In addition to more traditional letter grades and GPA assignments, New College uses narrative evaluations to provide students with rich, contextualized, individualized feedback on their strengths and weaknesses. Narratives should provide detailed information on the assignments and requirements of every course and on all aspects of course performance. The best narratives go beyond mere evaluation to offer feedback that will benefit the student in future activities.
