Program Description:

The Ultimate Study Abroad Experience

Quaint Christchurch awaits the study abroad student with a quiet dignity, much like the English villages it is modeled after. At the heart of the city center, Christchurch Cathedral's Gothic architecture is a stunning landmark and the perfect place to enjoy an aerial view of this picturesque city. At night, the "Garden City," sheds its more refined nature and plays host to bustling hotspots in its more obscure laneways. At the entry point to the truly magical South Island of New Zealand, you're never far from some of the world's most stunning natural scenery and corresponding high-adrenaline activities. Study abroad in Christchurch and be prepared for the city and the South Island of New Zealand to take your breath away.

Christchurch Program Highlights

  • Select from two universities in the Canterbury region
  • Take advantage of our included pre-semester trip to the beautiful islands of Fiji
  • Experience living with local and other international students in university housing
  • Live in Christchurch, benefiting from its relaxed lifestyle, the attractions of a city within a small town, and its proximity to all the South Island has to offer
  • Take advantage of our mid-semester excursion options to New Zealand's adventure-packed South Island or the culture and beaches of Thailand
  • Feel the adrenaline rush during our Orientation Program where you are exposed not only to local culture but to New Zealand's love of extreme sports

"All of my classes were interesting and included either hands-on components or small groups and discussion components. I loved my Maori Studies class because it explored Maori culture, which was very applicable to my time in New Zealand, but it also traced the culture from pre-settlement through modern times, pointing out the origins of different parts of the culture. The course also explored the natural world around us in New Zealand, and we had the opportunity to assist in conservation work in both modern and traditional Maori techniques on a field trip to Kaikoura."
Elizabeth Jacobsen, Williams College
