About This Program

The Study Abroad in Dublin program offers courses that deepen your understanding of the complexities of Irish culture. Through courses, an internship, or a directed study, you will connect with the city and the culture in a very tangible way.

There are several tracks on this program. Students on all tracks take the core course, Engaging Ireland: Past, Present, & Future. This course is front-loaded and gives context to the Irish culture through thematic topics such as religion, politics, education, language, economics, sports, and literature. The core course involves study tours around Dublin and Ireland to bring the course content to life.

Study Center

Take courses in performance, playwriting, storytelling, and Irish literature and film. These courses are taught by local professors but are designed for students studying abroad. The performance course is taught at the Gaiety School of Acting.

This track allows you to enroll in one of two local universities, Dublin City University (DCU) or University College Dublin (UCD), and choose from their wide variety of courses. Notable subjects at DCU are education and kinesiology. Notable subjects at UCD are business and biological sciences.

Take two classes at one of the universities and the rest of your credits through the Study Center option.

Housing is provided in comfortable, well-equipped apartments in central Dublin. Apartments house 2–4 students and include shared bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry. Meals are not included, but each apartment has a full kitchen. There are also numerous pubs and cafés within a short walk.

Cultural excursions around Dublin and Ireland are included in the program fee. In Dublin, this could include a night at the theatre, a visit to the Book of Kells, or an outing to a sporting event. There are two main excursions outside of Dublin: one to western Ireland and one to Northern Ireland.
